When to Advertise a Job

The biggest fear of any employer is when a key staff member resigns, the thought of hiring a new staff member, training them up and the time it’s going to take is troubling. The best time to advertise a job is the minute you receive the resignation letter.

By advertising early it enables you to interview, choose your new staff member, have them start sooner and allow the staff member who is leaving to train them.  Of course this isn’t always possible as people need to resign from their current positions and often this is one calendar months’ notice.

If you advertise a job as soon as possible, you stand a higher chance of not being without a staff member for a period of time.  Some applicants may only have to give a week or two weeks’ notice, which enables them to start a little earlier and be trained by the time your staff member leaves.  This makes the transition for you and the company much easier and doesn’t result in delays or other staff members having to take up any slack.

The Choice

When you advertise a job and get a lot of suitable applicants, you can choose according to availability. You may find there is a fully qualified applicant only available in one month, but someone with the same qualifications available immediately. You can decide which one meets your company’s needs and welcome them to your business without too much disruption because you advertised early.
